Her biography of John James Audubon, This Strange Wilderness, earned starred reviews from Booklist and Kirkus, was named a Booklist “Editors’ Choice”, cited by Kirkus as one of “Nine Teen Titles That Adults Shouldn’t Miss”, and chosen to represent the state of Nebraska at the 2017 National Book Festival, in Washington, D.C.

Nancy lives in New Jersey with her husband Alan. When not exploring the West, she can often be found at home, reading and writing its thrilling history, for she believes young readers love true stories, too.
